What is a Veterinary Specialist?
A Board-Certified Veterinary Specialist is a Veterinarian who specializes in a particular field of veterinary medicine. While your family veterinarian handles your pet’s primary health concerns, a specialist provides various forms of advanced specialized care when needed in your pet’s treatment plan. For a Veterinarian to specialize, the Board Certification process requires a minimum of 4 additional years of rigorous surgical training, repetition, and testing, through thousands of cases under the supervision of experienced Specialists.
When do you call a Specialist?
A specialist works closely with your veterinarian to build the best possible treatment plan for your pet. When specialized care is warranted, you may contact us directly or have your Veterinarian contact us to set up a referral. After treatment, we provide your pet's personalized recovery plan and send a report to your Primary Care Veterinarian.
